Among the trees and snowdrifts, the wanderer meets his sworn enemy, the ravenous wolf, who feels sympathy for his former foe. The new-found friends devise the perfect plan to help the dog return home with honor.
The animators first created the wolf, and then Armen Dzhigarkhanyan started the voiceover. During the audition, it turned out that the voice of the actor did not suit the character, and the forest dweller had to be redrawn.
The cartoon is based on the Ukrainian folk tale Serko.

The idea for the village of Prostokvashino and its inhabitants came to Eduard Uspensky while working at a pioneer camp. The writer wanted to give Matroskin the surname Taraskin in honor of his best friend, but the friend refused, which he regretted very much later.

The economic crisis of the 1990s forced the director to postpone the release of the fourth part of the cartoon for a long time, although the script was ready. There were talks with German colleagues to create an animated series and premiere it abroad, but the project never saw the light of day.
The Adventures of Leopold the Cat

In each episode Gray tries to trap the Hare, but the clever adversary is one step ahead. The chase continues in the city park and the museum, at the stadium and the beach, where the Wolf gets into ridiculous situations due to chronic bad luck.
Vladimir Vysotsky was supposed to voice the wolf, but the management did not approve the choice of the director.
The team worked on one series of 10 minutes duration for nine months.

The cartoon won prizes at international festivals in Melbourne, Chicago, Gijon, Japan and Tehran.

The boy’s fantasy comes true – and he finds himself in a fairy-tale kingdom. Vovka meets the Magic Oven, Vasilisa the Beautiful, the Golden Fish and even two nimble helpers, but it doesn’t turn out to be that easy.
In 2013, the main character of the cartoon was installed a monument in Novosibirsk, depicting Vovk lying on a royal throne.
