The Boys

The Amazon movie company presented an original project about superheroes who abuse the powers sent to them by the Almighty. The series launched on the Prime Video platform in 2019 and immediately caught the attention of a large audience.

Limitless

- Rating IMDB – 7.7
- Genre: Fantasy, Thriller, Drama, Comedy, Crime
- US production / 2015
- Directed by: Neil Burger
- Cast: Claire Glassford, Kathleen Hamm, Kristoff Brodeur, Dillon Matthews, Wellington Barrientos, Hill Harper, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, Bradley Cooper
The main motif of the series is the plot of A. Glynn’s bestselling novel called ‘The Darkness Areas.’ The focus is on an ordinary American, Brian, dejected by his worthless life. A black streak leads to him being blamed for the murder of a close friend. The case is handled by FBI agent Morr, who fatally changes Brian’s life. He gives him a super-secret pill that increases his abilities many times over. From now on, he has an amazing memory, highly developed intelligence and lightning-fast reaction speed.
All in all, ‘The Regions of Darkness’ is a decent detective tragicomic series with a colorful protagonist. The show manages to maintain a balance between criminal intrigue, humor and heart, and if you’re not allergic to the childish wackiness that Brian is sometimes prone to, then ‘Possibilities’ is worth giving a chance.
Another thing is that it’s by no means a ‘must-see’ spectacle, but just a good alternative to depressing TV detective movies like Criminal Minds or the formulaic Motive film.

Doom Patrol

- Genre: Fantasy, Action, Drama, Comedy, Detective
- US production / 2019
- Directed by: Chris Manley, Sally Richardson-Whitfield, Glen Winter
- Cast: Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, Timothy Dalton, Riley Shanahan, Matthew Zook, Brendan Fraser, Alan Tudyk, Joivan Wade, Kyle Russell Clements
Cliff Steele is a former NASCAR racer whose brain was transplanted into a robot body after a terrible accident. Jane, also known as Crazy Jane, whose childhood trauma resulted in 64 different personalities, each with their own superpowers. The other heroine of the film is Rita, or Elastic-Woman, a former actress who was exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure.
Larry Trainor, the Negative Man, is a U.S. Air Force pilot who has a certain essence settled inside him after a disaster. He wears special bandages to keep his body from radiating radioactivity. The company is later joined by Vic, aka Cyborg, whose father cybernetically enhanced his body to save his life after the accident. Timothy Dalton plays Niles Calder, nicknamed Chief, is the scientist who saved the heroes’ lives and allows them to stay in his mansion.
In the first season, the team encounters the main villain, Eric Morden, also known as Mr. Nobody, who can travel through dimensions and alter reality. He is the only conscious character on the show, so he often breaks the fourth wall and takes on the role of narrator, manipulating events to his liking.
Mr. Nobody kidnaps the Chief and holds him captive in a dimension called ‘White Space,’ and ‘Patrol’ spends most of the first season trying to rescue him, while fighting his own personal inner demons.
The second season expanded on the strengths of the first with even more crazy jokes, pathos, unexpected twists and personal dramas. The predominant theme in this season was the power of the imagination to explore childhood traumas. In season two, we learn that every member of the ‘Fatal Patrol’ has been seriously traumatized as a child, and not just physically, but mentally as well.
‘The Patrol’ is often lumped in with anti-hero shows. For example, it is united with ‘Watchmen’ by its black humor and psychedelic character.
Titans

- Cast: Brenton Thwaites, Teagan Croft, Anna Diop, Lindsey Gort, Ryan Potter, Karren Walters, Seamus Dever, April Bowlby, Dwayne Murphy
‘Titans’ is the first series on the recently launched DC Universe streaming service. The creators had serious tasks to accomplish. It was necessary to make a good first impression, to make a series that is not similar to similar projects of The CW channel, and preferably to bring something new not only in the DC adaptation but also in general in comic book screenings. And with most of these tasks, the writers have successfully accomplished.
First of all, ‘Titans’ is a series for its own people, which is what a series on the channel called DC The universe should be. The characters of ‘Titans’ live in the world of DC Comics. They behave from the very beginning roughly like characters from some iconic movies. This staging of the characters and their images is designed precisely for comic book connoisseurs.
The series doesn’t chew anything up, the viewer is held to his own, and it is extremely enjoyable. You feel like you are among your own kind of people. The world feels alive, multifaceted and capable of further evolution.
Visually, ‘Titans’ also entices from the first episodes. The action is staged dashingly, dynamically and even gory. The graphics are excellent, the creators aren’t trying to insert epic but poorly drawn scenes. They work with local special effects that look adequate. On a separate plus, you can put Rachel’s line, which at times turns into a classic horror flick with completely unpredictable screencasts. It really impresses the viewer.
